How can I tell if my garage door spring is broken and who should fix it?

When a spring breaks, it makes a terrible sound like a gunshot going off in your garage. Once a spring breaks, there will be a gap in coil itself showing it’s broken. Also, your door likely won’t open, and/or your garage door opener will struggle.
